Unit 2 Complete - Pioneers from England settle Jamestown

We had another good week!  Here are some highlights:
This is the poem we worked on over the week.  The kids drew and colored a picture on the back of their printed copy of the poem.  The poem was "Father, We Thank Thee" by Ralph Waldo Emerson, so they made their pictures to reflect what the poem is about.  They also did some copy work of the poem everyday.
We have been reading through Amelia Earhart and Helen Keller as part of our biography read aloud books this week.  We finished Amelia Earhart today and we will finish Helen Keller this week.  We are also going to do the Pizza Hut Book-It for Home Educators.  We decided that they each have a goal to read 20 books each month.  They can read out loud to me and we will also count the books that I read out loud to them.  They both already have 8 books down.  They each have a "Books I've Read" chart that we are putting stickers on.  I haven't decided what the prize will be once they get to 100, but I'm sure they will get there quick, so I better get thinking...
We have been reading about pioneers from England settling Jamestown, Virginia.  They had to work hard to make their own food and clothes.  They had to depend on each other, use teamwork, and trust in God to bless their hard work.  We also read about Ruth in the Bible how she worked hard to gather grain from Boaz's field to make food for Naomi and her to eat.  God blessed her through Boaz, who was willing to help her, protect her, marry her, and give her a son.  The kids drew a picture of Jamestown.  They drew a big wall with a gate, a corn field outside of the gate, and a wooded forest beyond the cornfield.  They also made a bumpy field with bundles of grain and small pieces of grain like in the story of Ruth that she gathered for food for her Mother-in-Law and her to eat.
Our Bible verse this week was Galatians 6:9 "And let us not grow weary while doing good for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.".  The kids learned a song to go along with this verse.  The verse went along well with our history and Bible lessons.  The pioneers had to work hard and so did Ruth.  They all chose to leave their homes and start over in a new place.  They could have gotten tired and given up and gone back home, but they did not.  They stayed, did good work, and trusted God, so he blessed them.  We also put this verse into practice at home!  I am starting to have the kids help me more around the house.  They have been helping with laundry, dishes, and cleaning.
Here is a video of the kids singing their Bible verse song.  It was a really high song!  Sean wasn't thrilled that Chloe and Lily joined in...

Chloe and Lily had a new letter this week.  They learned Bb and the number 2.  We got books at the library about bees and honey.  Our little rhyme to go along with Bb was "Busy bees making honey for me".  We used our pointer finger to fly around like a bee as we recited the rhyme and then pointed at ourselves when we got to the word me.
I have been working on getting ready for Lily's 3rd birthday party on Saturday!  She is having a frog party.  Here are some of the decorations I have made.
